Perry is Perry is a Chicago native who was born to Laurie Metcalf and Jeff Perry. She made her first appearances in television shows as Jackie Harris, a character which was played by her mother in her role on the ABC show Roseanne. However, her parents didn't want her to pursue acting until she became older and worried about the consequences of stress. Perry was a shy teenager and did not act. The actress began her acting career in the year 2000 at Northwestern University to gain friends after she was moved to the university from Boston University. Perry started her acting career with New York after graduation, performing in minor roles on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. But homesickness made Perry go back to California and find work as a stage actress. The Other Place was performed by her and her mother in 2013 on Broadway in 2013. In 2015 she performed alongside her father and Kevin McKidd in Eugene O'Neill's Pulitzer Prize-winning film Anna Christie on the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble in West Los Angeles. Perry appeared in nine episodes of the ABC crime thriller The Family in 2016. In 2017, she had a minor role on ABC's thriller about politics Scandal in which her father was the main character. She was also cast in her role on the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory spinoff Young Sheldon as a version younger than Mary Cooper, Sheldon Cooper's mother. She was cast in the role despite having a close relationship with the character's family.
